Many people want to know who their pilot is, especially if they are flying with them from point A to point B on a weekly basis. At IMAGINEAIR we're proud of our pilots and we think it's essential for people to get to know them. They are the reason people choose to fly with us everyday. If you travel in the Northeast then you'll probably get the chance to fly with one of our all-star pilots, Dan.
Meet one of our NE based pilots, Dan Laurie!
Dan (the man) grew up in West Virginia and went to West Virginia University. After School he moved to California and lived there for 20 years before he moved to Pennsylvania in 1999.
Dan and his wife, Kathleen, have two college age daughters named Kaelin and Natalie. Together, Dan and his family are adventurers and in their spare time they can be found trekking through the wilderness!
Dan has been flying for 28 years and learned to fly in California at Palo Alto Airport of Santa Clara County (KPAO). He also owns a Cessna 172 which he used to instruct in.
Dan is a Gold Seal Flight Instructor which is a certification that allows the FAA to recognize the best flight instructors in the industry. To obtain a Gold Seal Certification you must have a ground instructor certificate and within the last 24 months have a pass/fail rate of 80% or above.
His non-flying career was spent in Distribution and Logistics as a VP/GM of Operations where he worked all over the country.
Dan decided to change careers and left the corporate world for good in 2012 and started flying full-time.
Dan was also a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight. Angel Flight is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the community by facilitating air transportation for children and adults, with medical conditions, who need to get treatment far from home. Volunteer pilots use their own aircraft and cover the entire cost of the flights with no costs to the patients.
When asked what his favorite part of flying was, he responded "I don’t think there is one best part about it. I love the challenge of a strong crosswind landing or shooting an approach to minimums, the challenge and thrill of aerobatics, the freedom and perspective of looking down on everything, and the places you can go."
Dan also said he enjoyed flying for IMAGINEAIR as an Air Taxi Pilot because "of the freedom to choose my own schedule, the people I get to work with, the really cool places we fly to, the ability to put a smile on people’s faces with a great flight, and I love the Cirrus. I have worked for several companies over the years and I know good people when I see them. We really do have great people!"
When Dan isn't flying the Cirrus SR22 he is making some of the best bagels in the country! He owns Newtown Bagel Company located in Newtown, PA.
"We have the world’s best bagels and bagel sandwiches"- Dan.
